Teachers Training

On the Road Theatre Company is proud to announce the launching of a new service at Schools.

Storytelling is an ancient art form and a valuable form of human expression. It is also the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination.

Storytelling involves a two-way interaction between a storyteller and one or more listeners. The responses of the listeners influence the telling of the story. In fact, storytelling emerges from the interaction and cooperative, coordinated efforts of teller and audience.

In particular, storytelling does not create an imaginary barrier between the speaker and the listeners. This is part of what distinguishes storytelling from the forms of theatre that use an
imaginary “fourth wall.”

This Season we are catering for all ages, offering you sessions for Kindergarten, Primary School (first and second cycle) and Secondary School. Our vast range of authors and themes fan out from
comedy to tragedy, making this experience richer and more colourful.

2016 is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. To celebrate the works of this great playwright we have produced adaptations of Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer
Night’s Dream re-told as stories.  The adaptations are 20 minutes long each and are a great way to introduce children to Shakespeare’s plays; plays which still grip the imagination of audiences throughout the whole wide world.

Our experienced storytellers will be delighted to visit your school and be part of your Book Fairs, your classrooms, your very own planning even.
